Each 100 gm cream contains 5 gm Permethrin in a smooth, white & water miscible base.

Permethrin is a photostable synthetic pyrethroid that possesses a broad spectrum of insecticidal activity and low mammalian toxicity. Permethrin acts as a neurotoxin by depolarizing nerve cell membranes of parasites. Permethrin is rapidly metabolized in mammals by ester hydrolysis to inactivate metabolites which are excreted primarily through urine.

Scarin cream is indicated for the treatment of Scabies, a contagious skin disease due to the itch mite, Sarcouptes scabiei.

Adult & children over 12 years: upto 1 tube (30 gm). Children aged 6-12 years: upto ½ of a tube (15 gm). Children aged 1-5 years: upto ¼ of a tube (7.50 gm). Children aged 2 months-1 year: upto 1/8 of a tube (3.75 gm).

Permethrin cream is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to Permethrin and other constituents of the formulation.

For external use only. Avoid contact of Permethrin cream with eyes. In the event of inadvertent eye contamination, rinse with water or normal saline if possible. Nursing stuffs who routinely comes in contact with the cream may wear gloves to avoid any possible irritation to the hands. It is important that all family members & household contacts are treated at the same time to prevent reinfection

Skin discomfort, usually described as burning or stinging, occurs in a few individuals soon after Permethrin cream is applied. Other transient sings & symptoms of irritation including erythema, edema, eczema, rash & pruritus are generally considered to be the part of the natural history of scabies. In some treated patient itching may persist for upto 4 weeks because of allergic reactions to the dead mites under the skin and does not necessarily signify a treatment failure.

In the absence of specific studies in pregnant women it’s use in pregnancy should only follow medical advice. However, teratogenic effects would not be anticipated. Although caution should be exercised in administration of Permethrin to nursing mothers.

The treatment of eczemodous-like reactions with corticosteroids should be withheld prior to treatment with permethrin, as there is a risk of exacerbating the scabies infestation by reducing the immune response to the mite.

There are no reports of over dosage with the Permethrin. It is possible that excessive application of Permethrin might result in localized adverse reactions or more severe skin reactions.

Store in cool and dry place (below 30°C), protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
